Tips To Help You Quit Smoking

Everyone knows that smoking and second hand smoke for that matter is dangerous. It causes everything from asthma to cancer. It’s not easy to quit smoking though because although it is a habit it also is and addiction to nicotine. It’s no wonder electric cigarettes are becoming so popular. There are a few things to do to make it a little easier to quit though.

The first thing you should do is make a plan, plan the day you are going to quit. Plan a system of rewards for yourself, make a list of phone numbers of people you can call when the urge for a cigarette becomes almost uncontrollable and make a list of alternative things you can do instead of smoke when the urge for a cigarette hits you. One thing you can do is to checkout e-cigarettes. I’ll be talking about them in a few days. Remember to print out this list and put it somewhere you can always find it easily.

Think about what is motivating you to quit. You do not want to forget why you are quitting. Is it for your health, your children or that you can start running again and get in shape? Print out this list also and post it somewhere you will see it so it serves as a constant reminder.  Also there are some ecigarettes you can use that contain no nicotine.

Plan a system of rewards for yourself. These can be little things like a new t-shirt, a favorite DVD you have been wanting, a dinner at a new restaurant with friends, whatever will motivate you. Set up a time span for awarding yourself each thing also. Make sure to reward yourself occasionally but especially after the first day you go without smoking and the first week you complete.

If your having a hard time and the urge for a cigarette is really becoming over whelming, WAIT. Delay yourself. Take deep breaths, drink a glass of water (or soda or juice), chew some gum, crunch a carrot or frozen grapes. Call your support people, visit a smoking cessation forum (it is a good idea to join one also, misery loves company), do whatever it takes but delay that cigarette, delay, delay, delay, delay. The urge will pass, do these things every time the urge hits.

Keep thinking “N.O.P.E.”, not one puff ever. Just keep thinking this as the urges become less and less. Do not think that because you haven’t smoked in a month one puff won’t hurt. It will, remember nicotine is an addiction and giving the body even a tiny dose wakes up the urges all over again.

There are a number of nicotine replacement systems on the market today (pills, lozenges and gum) and as you know electronic cigarettes such as  e cigarettes. Some people swear that they work though because the physical act of smoking was the large part of the addiction for them. There is also medication available by prescription that is said to lessen the urges. Speak to your doctor about whether its right for you.

Above all else, think positive, you can do it.  Take care, Christine.

electronic cigarettes Hey, I'm Christine and I was a smoker for 17 years. I heard about electronic cigarettes and decided to try them out. I tested about 8 of them before I found one I liked and actually worked. So I created this site to help other people who want to know more about electronic cigarettes but don't want to have to go through the trial and error of finding out which one works like I did.
